I wanted to explore different animation techniques and try and combine them in the end seamlessly.
What began as a simple character animation evolved into an interactive web experience — combining hand-drawn animation, 3D environments, and scroll-driven storytelling.
Along the way, I experimented with game mechanics, visual development, and cinematic sequences, simply to see how far the idea could go.
First pass — rough pose exploration
Here you are able to see the different workflows. One embraces the imperfections and personality of traditional animation, while the other relies on procedural 3D techniques.
The character was animated frame by frame using pose-to-pose cel animation, while the environment & the snowboarder were created in Cinema 4D with a custom slider-based animation system. The contrast between the two became one of my favorite parts of the project.
